From farm waste to clean energy

An integrated biogas project that transforms manure and corn silage into renewable electricity for on-site use and the public grid.

The challenge

A livestock farm generates significant volumes of organic waste every day. Rather than treating manure as a disposal problem, Clean Energy Ternat and Essenga converted it into a valuable energy resource.

The solution

Essenga designed and implemented a biogas installation that uses cow manure and corn silage.

Through anaerobic digestion, these organic materials are converted into biogas, which fuels a combined heat and power (CHP) system to generate renewable electricity.

The installation supplies power for the farm while exporting surplus electricity to the public grid through a net metering arrangement.

The benefit

This project demonstrates how agricultural operations can become energy producers rather than energy consumers.

  • Renewable electricity generation
  • Productive use of agricultural waste
  • Reduced dependence on external energy sources
  • Additional value from existing farm operations

Engineered by Essenga

Essenga provided engineering expertise throughout the project, supporting the design and integration of the energy system to ensure reliable long-term operation.
